Mission: The mission Triton Elementary School Libraries is to foster and inspire the life long passion for reading. We will enrich students by maintaining a nurturing, safe, and inviting learning environment for all and strive to meet the needs of all ethnic, cultural, and educational differences for all children to excel in our global community.  We will collaborate to inspire learning and ensure that we have adequate resources for students to become 21st century learners.

Vision: The vision of the Triton Elementary School Libraries is to empower students to become enthusiastic readers, critical thinkers, and proficient researchers, and ethical citizens. We will maintain equality and freedom to access all information for our diverse population.

    Our Library Policies

    • K-6 students may check out one book at a time. If they need one for a class project, they're permitted to check out two books at a time.

    Library Expectations

    Every student or community member using the library must...

    1. Always have a safe learning body.
    2. Be kind and inclusive to each other.
    3. Use the books and library materials in a respectful manner.
    4. Always have a positive attitude and have fun!
    Reading

    I wouldn't be a librarian if I didn't like to read. For those of you who also enjoy reading, I've got some great recommendations for you. For those of you who don't...I still have some good ideas about books that might not be too bad. Just ask me!

    Some Suggestions...

    ​Kids Reads- KidsReads is a great place to "shop" for books. This site gives you information about authors, book reviews, and books that haven't come out yet, but soon will. Look for the information about books that have also been made into movies!

    ​The Children's Book Review- This site provides pictures, information, and reviews of books for preK-6th grade kids. It includes recommendations as well as bestsellers.

    ​TalesToldTall- Michael Sullivan is a librarian who knows how to give boys good books...books about all sorts of interesting things like spies, dinosaurs, pirates, gross stuff, and sports. Do you have to be a boy to enjoy these things? Of course not! Just take a look at his website.

    If you're at home and wondering what to do, check out these library resources from around the country. Some of them are live streamed storytimes, so double-check the time zone they're in!

    BookFlix and TrueFlix

    ​BookFlix offers so many online stories that children can read, or have read to them. Fiction is paired with a nonfiction book about the same subject.

    ​TrueFlix is for anyone interested in history, geography, or science who wants to read an online book about anything from Natural Disasters to the Civil War to the Wild West!

    Other Thoughts

    I once read a book where the main character's father urged her, in good situations as well as bad, to "find the gift in it." Today I took a longer walk than usual, and saw so many signs of early spring: trees budding, and crocuses and daffodils just starting to surface.

    Reconsideration of Library Materials Procedure

    The reconsideration of library materials procedure relates to the selection, deselection and reconsideration of library materials as recommended by the American Library Association (ALA), Massachusetts Library System (MLS), and in our local library consortium the Merrimack Valley Library Consortium MVLC.

    The procedure will:

    • Provide a framework for the consistent selection and acquisition of library resources in all formats using a standard set of criteria.

    • Ensure a diversity of viewpoints on all topics, including those that may be considered controversial.

    • Establish a process by which individuals may share their concerns about library resources in a discussion with a librarian or, if their concerns are unresolved, invoke a formal reconsideration process.

    • Affirm the importance of intellectual freedom, referencing key documents such as the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, the Library Bill of Rights, and the Freedom to Read Statement.
